Masao Mizukami, a Japanese artist who is a very creative flower designer, also a very successful installation artist, indoor and outdoor landscape artist. Masao was born in Tokyo to an artistic family – his grandmother is a Koto (Japanese harp) player, his father, a watercolour painter, and his elder sister, a professor of Sogetsu. As a child, Masao had an inherent passion for art, and acquired wide knowledge in painting, music and ikebana from home. He studied Fine Art at the Tokyo Art University and later at the L’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Extensive travels brought him to many parts of Europe, India, Nepal, China, Southeast Asia, Egypt, the Middle East and the United States where he was aesthetically nurtured and inspired to create his own artistic expressions of great vitality.

Back to Tokyo, he stayed in Japan for over 30 years. Basing his art on naturalism, and combining his own personal artistic aspirations with Asian culture, he strove to bring to perfection the beauty of space. Using creative simplicity, his flower designs in Tokyo evoked the spirits of the mountains, rivers and waterfalls. Masao also served as Professor of the famed Mami Flower Design School in Tokyo.

Then starting point of all Masao’s works is his deep thought and sublime passion. He makes use of his highly alert sensibility and never changing innocence and observation of the seasons to immerse himself in nature, and comes up with artistic images that are so perfect that they become a part of nature. Even in ordinary commercial flower arrangement designs, he is able to transform the design into an extraordinary work of art. His creative ideas come flowing like torrents with great variety and diversity. He uses his intelligence to explore infinite possibilities in space with a technique so uncommon that the spectators will marvel at his achievement. In his work one can often find some of the toys of his childhood. Through these one can appreciate the momentary beauty of nature and more importantly he reminds us repeatedly to cherish nature, to protect its environment..

Looking at Masao works also reminds people of classical Chinese poetry, which is able to conjure up a sense of sublime beauty or tell a meaningful story with a minimum of characters, So are Masao’s works, they leave the spectator with deep thoughts and moved, as a true artist and a true son of Mother Nature.

水上雅夫生於日本東京藝術世家，是一位充滿生命力，富於想像力，具有藝術家氣貭的花藝設計師。同時是一位相當成功的裝置藝術家和室內室外風景庭園藝術家。水上雅夫的祖母是日本古琴師，父親是業餘水彩畫家，姐姐是日本花道”草月流”導師。他自小受藝術薰陶和教養。少年時在日本東京藝術大學鑽研純藝術，再到法國巴黎國立高級美術學院深造。繼而周遊列國，廣泛地汲取西洋藝術和東洋藝術的精髓，滋養創作靈感，培育出獨有的藝術表達方式。以後三十多年間，他在東京發展充滿創意的花藝設計和別具風格的裝置藝術。以不用花泥或針山，而能使花卉自然企立，使支點成為整個設計的一部分，而聞名於花藝界。同時他也是東京有名的“MAMI花藝設計學校”的導師。“以大自然為本”，致力彰顯完美的空間，水上雅夫以深刻的思維和崇高的激情作為他創作的胚胎，以極其敏銳的觸覺，恆久不變的童真，對四時入微的觀察力，與大自然渾為一體，追求“天人合一”的境介。同時融入個人對亞洲文化和藝術內涵的情感。憑著他對大自然的“一往情深”，及能看穿事物表面並發掘內在美的才能，水上雅夫在國際上建立了祟高的地位。

他閱歴豐富觸目皆是創作靈感。在無數裝置藝術中，重現大自然的靈氣，天光水色，動靜交融的景色，在變化神奇的藝術寶庫中，締造和諧。他甚至把一般的商業花藝設計昇華為別具靈氣的藝術作品。以無限的智慧拓展有限的空間。他的表現手法有別於一般，常常使觀者嘆為觀止。他表現的主題，大部分是來自他孩童時的體驗，對大自然的深刻印像。更重要的是在他的作品中，不斷地提醒人們要珍惜大自然，要對大自然生態的保護。因此被譬“大自然之子”。

在他的教學過程中，除了色彩學、構圖學、美學，更重要的是觀察素材的特性，發揮物料本身的魅力，通過思想構圖，精煉慧眼，配合藝術旋律，那怕只有一株花、一枝葉子，也可以從作品中表現出獨特的設計。在線與線、面與面、線與面、立體與立體、立體與面、或立體與線的交響結合，復雜中呈現統一，變化中透出韻律，以無限的智慧展拓有限的空間。從學羽的過程中，明白到人生也是一樣，要懂得取捨，人生才能取得平衡，才能在某方面取得成果。優美的作品，可以充實我們的生活空間，提昇生活情趣。同時可以在學羽的過程中，發見真我，發揮生命中更深刻的藝術思惟，激發對大自然崇高的情感，花藝設計和藝術品一樣，都是要先感動自己，才能感動別人。

水上雅夫獲獎無數，2005年代表香港在日本五年一度全世界最重要的“第八回WAFA世界大會”中，在來自29個國家的700多名專業花藝設計師中，獲得全場唯一的“最最優雅大獎”。原作品收藏於香港政府禮賓府，及香港英國總領事官阺。同年被北京花卉協會聘請為“為奧運獻鮮花，為北京添光彩”高級顧問
